Hiawatha BIKE Trail
THE Crown Jewel of RAIL TO TRAIL BIKE RIDES in America!
The Hiawatha Bike Trail was the premier ride for us. It’s about 15 miles each direction. A lot of people, ride down and have the bus bring them and their bike back up to the parking lot. We arrived just prior to them closing and said we could go as long as we had lights on our bikes, but the bus was full, so we would have to ride back ourselves. Since we have e-bikes, we weren’t interested in the bus ride back anyway.
We enjoyed and cold wet muddy tunnels, wildlife, sweeping vistas, the trees top trusses views. It was breath taking beautiful. Cleaning up the mud off our bikes, was totally with it!! We were a little worried as we hadn’t seen anyone in a while and it was starting to get dark. What if we got a flat or broke down. It’s a long way back and animals were starting to pop out on the rode. We rang our bells to alert them of us riding by, as we almost hit a couple of deer. We weren’t sure about other animals in the area. Are there any bears around here? But, we arrived back at our trailer, just before dark. We also had fun boondocking (dry camping) in their parking lot. A bit spooky as we were the only ones around for miles.
